Building a Media PC using the Intel NUC

Intel’s Next Unit of Computing, NUC as its affectionately called, is a 3rd gen i3-3217U processor in a small 4 inch x 4 inch x 1.5 inch box. Its size and power gives it great potential as a compact media PC. The model I opted to try was the D33217GKE (Black top) as it came with dual HDMI and Gigabit LAN. The DC3217BY (Red top), drops the Gigabit Ethernet and 2nd HDMI in favour for a Thunderbolt port.

The only component that didn’t move across was the RAM. This is because I wanted to give the Kingston 16GB kit a go.

Asus Vivo Tab RT

I grabbed one of these on Friday and have had a little play over the weekend and thought I would blog my initial experience. I will separate the review into 2 parts - hardware and software. Hardware The Asus Vivo RT is similarly speced to the Surface RT. The main significant differences are really the keyboard dock, build quality and NFC. The keyboard dock that Asus include doubles as a second battery so when docked you get close to double battery capacity (untested).
